The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) Aboriginal Circle is holding a provincial circle on Honouring Reconciliation: Labour’s Role, on Friday, September 28, 2018.
As we strive towards creating a society based on inclusiveness, equity and shared prosperity, we must also take the time to reflect and learn from our history – one that is rooted in colonialism and the cultural genocide of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people. This means taking the time to engage with Indigenous peoples and organizations to better understand how we can work together to build a society that works for everyone. It also means continuing to be advocates of Indigenous justice by extending our solidarity efforts and taking guidance from Indigenous communities on how we can push for meaningful changes aimed at empowering Canada’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
The OFL recognizes that we share a collective responsibility to walk the path towards reconciliation. This provincial circle will build on labour actions and help identify the labour movement’s continuing role in realizing the recommendations outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
We urge affiliates and labour councils to register Aboriginal members. Settler (Non-Aboriginal) members are welcomed, but in the spirit of reconciliation we ask that space and voice be ensured for our Aboriginal members.
The seminar registration form can be found here. The registration fee is $100.00 (lunch included). Please return the completed form, together with a cheque payable to, “OFL Honouring Reconciliation: Labour’s Role,” no later than September 21, 2018. Please note, participants can register and pay at registration.
